Children's Palliative Care Centre at Goa

Prateek Menezes Memorial Foundation felt the need to set up a Children’s Palliative Care Centre at Goa, to provide quality health care to children suffering with life limiting conditions and their care givers. Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai agreed to provide mentorship and technical support to set up, implement and integrate Children’s Palliative Care services. Therefore, a Memorandum of Understanding was entered on 01st June, 2018, and on 1st October, 2019 between Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai in collaboration with the Trustees of Prateek Menezes Memorial Foundation at Panjim Goa.

Prateek Menezes Memorial Foundation represented by its Paediatrician Dr. Philomena D ‘Souza as the nodal person worked for co-ordinating and implementing project activities in co-ordination with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. The activities involves scheduling and conducting of training programmes for staff which includes planning, organizing, conducting, deputing staff and faculty for training, delivering children’s Palliative Care to children, maintaining data on a case-to-case basis for all children receiving Palliative care, make available appropriate medicines including opioids and pain-relieving medication such as morphine by obtaining a licence for the same.

It was also agreed by Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai to conduct training at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai by providing medical and rehabilitative support, activities for children-Counselling, support group meeting, Recreational activities, Puppetry workshops, Origami, Art, Craft, Get together, and advocacy meetings.
